SNAP Stopgap Initiative

We’ve converted 0 into 0 pounds of food and counting...

The SNAP Stopgap Initiative was created to respond to the urgent needs of families affected by interruptions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). More than 40 million Americans rely on SNAP to put food on the table, and during periods when benefits are halted, low-income households face immediate hunger and insecurity.

Supporting families when the safety net falters

At Project Restore Us, we work with families who already stretch every dollar to cover groceries. Even before interruptions to SNAP, rising food costs and reduced benefits left many households struggling. The SNAP Stopgap Initiative steps in to fill that gap by delivering culturally relevant and nutritious groceries. Staples like rice, beans, oats, and many more are provided directly to families who need it most.

Through partnerships with local food pantries, healthcare providers like Boston Community Pediatrics, and community organizations across Boston, we identify households facing the most urgent need and deliver groceries in a dignified and efficient way. This initiative builds on the systems we developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, when home-delivered groceries helped thousands of families navigate unprecedented food insecurity.

The SNAP Stopgap Initiative is not a replacement for government assistance. Instead, it is a rapid-response program designed to ensure that families do not go hungry while waiting for benefits to resume. By providing immediate support, we help families stay nourished, maintain stability, and protect their long-term wellbeing during periods of disruption.
